Mrs. May Gardner, 86, a former Mellott resident, died at 4 p.m. Wednesday in culver Hospital at Crawfordsville. She was born May 4, 1883 near Mellott, a daughter of Frank and Amanda Bennett Huff. In April, 1909, she married John W. Gardner, who preceded her in death Oct. 18, 1955. She was a life resident of Mellott until 1955, when she moved to Crawfordsville. She was a member of the Mellott United Church of Christ, the Newtown OES and attended the First Methodist Church at Crawfordsville. She attended Terre Haute State Normal College and taught in elementary schools in the Mellott area. Survivors include a son, Emery E. of Crawfordsville; a step-son Benjamin M. of Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister Mrs. Ralph Nance of Richmond and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m.Friday at Crumley-Williams Funeral Home at Hillsboro, with Rev. James Whitaker officiating. Burial will be in Newtown Cemetery.
